Supported still-image formats

Adobe Media Encoder supports 8-bit per-channel (4 bytes per pixel) and 16-bit per-channel (8 bytes per pixel) still-

image files. It converts images with lower bit-depths to 8-bits per channel and images with higher bit-depths to 16-bits

per channel on import. High bit-depth files are supported at one single-precision float per channel (16-bytes per pixel).

• Bitmap and Bitmap sequence (BMP, DIB, RLE)

• GIF

• Icon File (ICO) (Windows only)

• JPEG and JPEG sequence (JPE, JPG, JFIF)

• Targa and Targa sequence (TGA, ICB, VDA, VST)

• TIFF and TIFF sequence (TIF)

Encode media

Note: The free trial version of Adobe Media Encoder software does not include some features that depend upon software

licensed from parties other than Adobe. For example, some codecs for encoding and decoding MPEG formats are available

only with the full version of Adobe

Media Encodersoftware.

The set of formats that you can export to using Adobe Media Encoder varies depending on what other Adobe

applications you have installed. The version of Adobe Media Encoder that comes with Flash Professional and the

Design and Web editions of Creative Suite 4 is just intended for exporting to Flash video formats. To export to other

video formats, you need the version that comes with the Production Premium edition, or with After Effects or

Premiere Pro.

Adobe Media Encoder workspace

The Adobe Media Encoder workspace includes tools and panels that help you easily add media assets to the encoding

queue, and select a suitable encoding format for use with the intended application and user audience. You can also edit

video using crop and trim controls, add points to trigger events at specified points during playback, and adjust the

export settings of any format for a specific application or audience.
